Falcons Hockey Club was formed initially in 1968 by Ron Young and other workers from Blacklocks Motors. The shirts were orange with the Ford Falcons Logo with only a Mens Team.
In 1975 a Womens Team was introduced with the club then representing both Mens and Womens Hockey teams. Falcons have always fostered junior hockey, fielding junior boys, the first club team in junior girls with the rest being school teams and then minkey hockey starting with Kevin Burns.
During the mid 1980s the North Albury Falcons joined with the PCYC club to become PCYC Falcons. The amalgamation was to give PCYC players a chance to go into 1st Division and to fill a team in all grades for Falcons. At that time the PCYC increased the junior element to Falcons and the club was able to field teams in all Mens, Womens, Junior Boys and Junior Girls. The PCYC was dropped from the name when it became incorporated.
Falcons Minkey began in the early 90s at the Albury Hockey fields with Mr Kevin Burns teaching our young players about the game where he continued to coach for many years. Kevin is a life member of Falcons and Hockey Albury Wodonga and you will often see him down at the fields watching the games and always lending a hand at carnivals, tournaments etc.
Minkey continues today but is now referred to as "Under 10's". Any juniors interested in seeing what hockey is all about are always welcome down at the hockey centre from 5.30pm each Wednesday evening. We would love to see some new faces and have you join in and have some fun. A number of our first junior players have gone on to play representative hockey in both State League, Regional, Country, State and Australian teams.
Our junior players start as young as 7 and 8 in our under 10's competition, in some cases a little younger and then progress to U12's then up through the junior ranks to senior hockey.
Falcons has now grown to become one of the biggest hockey clubs in the Albury district and proudly call itself a family club with approximately 120 players fielding teams in junior boys and girls in the U12s, U14s, U16Bs as well as Mens and Womens 1st, 2nd & 3rd Divisions and Masters Womens.
Our teams have won a number of Hockey Albury Wodonga Premierships over the years and continues to be very competitive in all divisions.
Our 1st Grade Men won 3 in a row in the early to mid 90s with Bert Eastoe, Ben & Matt Smart, Matty Bardy and Tony and Matt Evans, the majority of this team had come through from our junior teams. Our 1st Grade Women also went on to win a number of back to back premierships in 2000, 2001 and 2004 and 2005 coached by Rod White.
Season 2009 saw our 1st Division Men's team win the premiership with our 3rd Division Men's team runners up in what was a great year for our Falcons Club. Long serving Falcons member Bert Eastoe was bestowed with a life membership to the Hockey Albury Wodonga Association and young up and coming U12 player Carolyn Taylor wins the U12G Best & Fairest for the HAW Association.
